«Gospel of Peter [fragm. of Akhmîm]»
From “Apocryphal Gospels”, Edmundo González-Blanco (1934)
The “Gospel of Peter” is one of the apocryphal gospels and is known only in fragments, thanks to a manuscript found in Egypt in the winter of 1886-87. Written in the first person, the narrator is identified as Simon Peter (verse 60), although current scholars rule out that it could actually have been written by the apostle. Only the part corresponding to the Passion and Resurrection of Christ survives, with important differences from the narrative in the canonical gospels. Although some date its composition back to the year 71, which would make it approximately contemporary with the synoptic gospels, most researchers place it in the first half of the third century.
