“Infancy Gospel of Thomas”
From “Ante-Nicene Fathers, Vol. 8”, Edited by Alexander Roberts, James Donaldson, and A. Cleveland Coxe. (Buffalo, NY: Christian Literature Publishing Co., 1886.) Revised and edited for New Advent by Kevin Knight.
The “Infancy Gospel of Thomas” also “Gospel of Pseudo Thomas” is a gospel about the infancy of Jesus dating back to before the 5th century. It is part of a popular genre of biblical work, written to satisfy the desire of ancient Christians to know more miraculous stories and anecdotes of Jesus, in addition to those mentioned in the Gospel of Luke. Some references by Hippolytus of Rome and Origen of Alexandria to a Gospel of Thomas surely refer to this gospel and not to the Gospel of Thomas with which it is usually confused.
