Finally, this month we’re unveiling some very special content we’ve been working on for the past few months!

Map Library
The first version of the Map Library for The Urantia Book has arrived on Urantiapedia! 
It’s been many months of working behind the scenes, but we can finally share this content.
This first version contains a good portion of the material we want to include, but not all of it, not by a long shot. You can consult the index we’ve created in English, Spanish, and French. For each of the three languages, we now have:
- “In His Footsteps: Maps of Jesus’ Travels”. A collection of 38 maps from the Urantia Foundation showing the locations of places in Jesus’ life. The index is available in all three languages, although the maps are only available in English.
- “Where Jesus Walked”. Three maps from the Jesusonian Foundation created for their work “The Untold Story of Jesus.” The index is available in all three languages, although the maps are only available in English. Due to their size, the images are hosted externally to Urantiapedia.
- “Maps for a Study of the Life of Jesus”. A collection of nine maps from the Urantia Book Fellowship, along with some related articles, all concerning the geography of the life of Jesus. The index is available in all three languages, although the maps are only available in English.
- Maps by Jan Herca. A collection of maps and cartographic works currently in progress that are expected to cover all the geographical content of The Urantia Book. When completed, this collection will consist of approximately 120 maps, of which about 30 have been published so far in three different formats (PDF, SVG, and PNG). Both the index and the maps themselves are available in English, Spanish, and French. Due to the size of the maps, they are hosted externally to Urantiapedia.
- Atlas of Historical Geography of the Holy Land, by George Adam Smith. This is an atlas from the beginning of the last century that was possibly used by the authors of The Urantia Book and is very interesting. The index is available in all three languages, although the maps are only in English. Due to the size of the images, they are hosted externally to Urantiapedia.
- Interactive Maps. At the moment, we only have two test maps created with Google My Maps, hosted externally to Urantiapedia on the service provided by Google. The index is available in all three languages, although the maps are only in Spanish for now.
¶ How we are building the Map Library
The content of the Map Library is special because the maps require formats that cannot be reduced to text only. For this reason, some content is being hosted on a cloud service, and Urantiapedia simply links to it. When the maps created are small images, they are hosted within Urantiapedia, like any other image in the project.
Jan Herca is creating a map collection using certain existing content:
- For the background of the modern-era maps, he is using Natural Earth, a collection of freely available cartography.
- As a reference for the Roman-era maps, he is using the Digital Atlas of the Roman Empire and various archaeological maps of Palestine.
- Other cartographic data sources will be added to create maps of various historical periods.
Due to the special characteristics of Jan Herca’s maps, their content cannot be easily shared on GitHub, where the Urantiapedia project is hosted. Therefore, the intention is to eventually publish all the files used internally to generate the maps (files in Geopackage, Cloud-Optimized-GeoTIFF and QGIS formats) as downloadable content from a cloud service. Our intention is that these files will allow other readers to create versions of these maps in other languages. We will announce in due course where this data can be accessed and how it can be used. Urantiapedia with Venezuela
A few days ago, Venezuela suffered terrible earthquakes that have greatly affected the country and its wonderful people. From here, we want to send all our support and solidarity. Venezuela holds a special place in the heart of Urantiapedia. It is one of the countries from which we receive the most visits and where the readers of The Urantia Book have dedicated the most time and effort collaborating with the project. We remember them all with appreciation and wish their families well and good health.
