Herod Archelaus was ethnarch of Judea, Samaria, and Idumea. He was the brother of Herod Antipas. He was deposed by Augustus in A.D. 6. [1] Joseph feared that Herod Archelaus would follow his father's threatening policy. [2] Archelaus had his palace in Jericho. [3] The parable of the minas is based on the experience of Archelaus and his futile attempt to gain the government of Judea. [4]
