Man cannot choose beyond the range of that which is choosable. Man does not have unfettered free will; there are limits to his range of choice, but within the radius of this choice his will is relatively sovereign. [3]
Will is that manifestation of the human mind which enables the subjective consciousness to express itself objectively and to experience the phenomenon of aspiring to be Godlike. [4] Man must be fallible if he is to be free; misunderstandings are inevitable. [5]
Sons created with a large degree of personal liberty in choosing and planning result in early tribulations that are far more than compensated by later higher loyalty. [6]
The endowment of imperfect beings with freedom entails inevitable tragedy, and it is the nature of the perfect ancestral Deity to universally and affectionately share these sufferings in loving companionship. [7] Free will, joined to self-consciousness, is an exclusive endowment of personalities. [8] Father’s gift of personality makes mortals self-conscious and, relatively, self-determinative and self-creative. [9] It is a fixed policy of universe law not to infringe free will. [10]
No human being will ever be spiritualized by a divine Monitor against his will; survival is a gift of the Gods which must be desired by the creatures of time. Morontia mind is a term signifying the substance and sum total of the co-operating minds of diversely material and spiritual natures. And with mortals this is a will, human in origin, which is becoming divine through man’s identification of the human mind with the mindedness of God. [11] Hunger and fear provide external restraint to choice range. [12]

Mortal man is neither a helpless slave of the inflexible sovereignty of an all-powerful God nor the victim of the hopeless fatality of a mechanistic cosmic determinism. [14] Mortal man may draw near God and may repeatedly forsake the divine will so long as the power of choice remains. [15] Only in the realms of creature volition has there been deviation from the divine paths and the original plans. [16] Free will choice permits mortals to cocreate themselves with God as they are to be. [17] While religion is normal and natural to man, it is also optional. Man does not have to be religious against his will. [18] Spirit liberates and mechanism limits the function of free will. [19] Spiritual volition self-identified with God is liberated from time. [20] Temptation cannot be overcome merely by human will. [21]
Free will is will, the power of choosing to worship and to ascend; ability to choose eternal survival. [22]
No other being, force, creator, or agency in all the wide universe of universes can interfere to any degree with the absolute sovereignty of the mortal free will. [23] It dangerous and unstable if it is uncontrolled and unidentified with spirit. [24] It is the determining factor in human experience. [25] It is empowered to rescind spiritual choice and reject survival at any time before fusion. [26] Free will includes the possibility of self-confusion, self-disruption, and self-destruction. [27]
Choice becomes increasingly liberated as the universes are ascended; choice eventually approximates divine freedom when the ascending personality achieves divinity of status, supremacy of consecration to the purposes of the universe. [28] Will is maximated decision. Will is the deliberate choice of a self-conscious being which leads to decision-conduct based on intelligent reflection. [29]
Material mind is the arena in which human personalities live, are self-conscious, make decisions, choose God or forsake him, eternalize or destroy themselves. [30]
We are not given unrestricted choice as to our future course; but we may choose within some limits. The spirit world is governed on the principle of respecting our freewill choice provided the course we may choose is not detrimental to us or injurious to our fellows. [31] Free will is the range of choice necessary to enjoy universe progression by making contact with reality. [32] Our will is relatively free and hence determines our actions. [33]
During life our mortal will, the personality power of decision-choice, is resident in the material mind circuits; as our terrestrial mortal growth proceeds, this self, with its priceless powers of choice, becomes increasingly identified with the emerging morontia-soul entity; after death and following the mansion world resurrection, our personality is completely identified with the morontia self. [34]
The Father has ordained free will; no personality has power or authority to curtail or abridge this choosing capability. [35]
The Creator refuses to coerce or compel the submission of the spiritual free wills of his material creatures. The affectionate dedication of the human will to the doing of the Father’s will is man’s choicest gift to God. [36]
We mortals are subjects of predestination, but it is not foreordained that we must accept this divine predestination; we are at full liberty to reject any part or all of the Thought Adjusters’ program. [37]
The very fact that an evil-doing creature can actually choose to do wrong—commit sin—establishes the fact of free-willness and fully justifies any length delay in the execution of justice provided the extended mercy might conduce to repentance and rehabilitation. [38]
The decision of Andon and Fonta twins to flee northward and segregate from their ancestors was first act of will on Earth. [39] Man’s acquirement of ethical judgment, moral will, is usually coincident with the appearance of early language.
